How is BSC Dataverse Structured?¶
The BSC Dataverse is designed to reflect the organizational structure of the BSC, creating an intuitive and efficient framework for managing and sharing research data.
Each department at BSC will have its own dedicated Dataverse collection, serving as a primary container for datasets, sub-dataverses, and metadata related to the department's specific research and activities. These collections are designed to organize datasets by research groups, projects, or thematic areas within the department, facilitating collaboration both within and across teams while ensuring clear ownership and effective management of the data.
Example Departmental Collections:
- Life Sciences Department
- Computational Social Sciences and Humanities Department
- Earth Sciences Department
- Computer Science Department
- Computer Applications in Science & Engineering Department
In addition to departmental collections, support collections may be established to provide additional resources such as training materials or shared datasets (e.g., BSC Training Dataverse in Figure 1).
Administration¶
Each Dataverse collection is overseen by a Dataverse steward, who serves as the primary administrator for their department’s collection. The Dataverse steward is responsible for:
- Adding users and assigning roles and permissions
- Ensuring compliance with BSC data management policies
Users who wish to contribute to a departmental Dataverse must contact the Dataverse steward for their department. The Dataverse steward will grant access based on your role and agreement.
