Publishing process¶
What does publishing mean?¶
Publishing data in BSC Dataverse means making your metadata and files publicly accessible on the BSC Dataverse catalogue. This allows anyone to search, find, and view your metadata.
For open-access files, users can directly download them once they have registered with BSC Dataverse. However, for controlled access files, users will need to register, request access, and wait for approval before being able to download the files.
Who can publish data to BSC Dataverse?¶
As the author of a dataset or collection, your role is limited to submitting them for review.

The review process involves multiple teams, including the department's Dataverse Steward and the BSC Intellectual Property (IP) team. Ultimately, it is the Dataverse Steward who will be responsible for publishing your dataset or collection.
Publishing process in stages¶
Stage 1: Itellectual Property review¶
- The IP team will review your submission to verify the correctness of the licensing information and completion of the disclosure form (see here). This step is crucial before publishing any outcome. Please refer to the License section for details on acceptable licenses.
Stage 2: Dataverse Steward review¶
- Once the IP team approves your submission, the Dataverse Steward from your department (refer to the BSC Dataverse Steward list) will review your dataset or collection. They will ensure that the information complies with internal standards and guidelines.
- If approved, the Dataverse Steward will publish your dataset or collection on the BSC Dataverse catalogue.
Stage 3: Notification & Resubmission¶
-
Upon publication, you will receive an email notification to your registered email address.
-
If your submission does not pass the review process, it will be returned with specific instructions for modification. The comment with the modifications is only available through the email linked to your BSC Dataverse account. Once you have made the necessary changes, you can resubmit your dataset or collection for further review.
