Groups and group folder
Group Folders in B2DROP¶
B2DROP allows the creation of Group Folders, where you can share files with specific groups of users. These users must have a B2DROP account, regardless of whether they are BSC employees or external collaborators.
Requesting a Group Folder¶
To request a Group Folder, send an email to datamanagement@bsc.es with the following details:
- Name of the Group Folder
- List of users: Full name and institutional email address
- Storage quota required for the group folder
- Associated project name
- Group administrator(s) (at least one)
- End date
- OnlyOffice permissions (if required)
Managing Group Membership¶
Whenever you wish to add new members to a Group Folder, please contact the Data Management team by sending an email to datamanagement@bsc.es.
Assigning Groups and Permissions¶
A Group Folder can have multiple groups assigned, each with different permissions. The available permissions include:
- Write: Allows uploading and modifying files
- Delete: Allows file deletion
- Share: Allows sharing files with others through public and internal links

If no specific permissions are requested, a default group will be created with Write, Share, and Delete permissions.
The following image illustrates the general structure of a Group Folder and its associated groups with different permission levels.

Once configured, this folder will be visible in the home folder of each member of the group.

Advanced Permissions¶
If you need advanced permissions for a specific user or group, you should request them when submitting your Group Folder request. Advanced permissions allow fine-grained control in subfolders and files over:
- Read
- Write
- Create
- Delete
- Share
Additionally, custom permission rules can be applied.
