Dataverse Overview

What is Dataverse?

Dataverse is an open-source web application used for sharing, preserving, citing, and analyzing research data. It provides a platform where researchers, institutions, and data publishers can store datasets and make them publicly accessible or restrict them based on privacy and confidentiality needs.

BSC Dataverse

The BSC Dataverse is the institutional research data repository of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS). It seeks to enable the storage, sharing, and search of research data coming from the BSC researchers, collaborators, and affiliated projects.

The BSC Dataverse is built on the popular and established Dataverse platform and supports:

  • Collaboration and sharing: Embraces collaboration and enables datasets to be shared within the scientific community, enhancing interdisciplinary research.

  • Data discoverability: Enables researchers to search for and apply existing data, ensuring transparency in research practices while sustaining research outputs.

  • Data citation: permanent links to datasets will be available to provide easy citation tools to refer to them.

  • In-house data management: all the data that has been saved onto the BSC Dataverse is stored in the BSC authenticated infrastructure like Marenostrum and the internal storage cloud systems. The data is within the scope of internal policies and regulatory guidelines increasing its security.

The BSC Dataverse aims to align with open science principles, making data accessible while respecting privacy and intellectual property considerations.

⚠️ Disclaimer

All data uploaded to the BSC Dataverse must comply with institutional policies and ethical standards. This includes ensuring that no sensitive or identifiable data (e.g., personally identifiable information or confidential project details) is uploaded unless properly de-identified and anonymized.

For detailed guidance, refer to the Best Practices section, which outlines recommendations for data preparation, de-identification, and compliance with BSC policies. Refer to the BSC sensitive or personal data management procedure.
