DOIs vs Permalinks

In the BSC Dataverse, each dataset is assigned either a DOI or a Permalink. The choice is configured at the Collection (Dataverse) level, not at the individual dataset level, and the default option are DOIs.

For example, if your collection is set to assign DOIs by default, but you need to register a dataset that already has a DOI from another repository, you must use a Permalink instead. Assigning a second DOI is not allowed.

How to switch from DOI to Permalink

Before registering your dataset, adjust your collection settings:

• Open your Collection.

• Click Edit > General Information.

• Under PID Provider Option, change the value from DataCite (Default) to Perma1:perma:BSC/.

• Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

• Proceed with dataset registration. The system will now assign a Permalink.

⚠️ Important Information

• If you do not switch the setting back to DOIs, all future datasets in this collection will be assigned Permalinks.
• Once a dataset is created, its identifier type (DOI or Permalink) cannot be changed.
