BSC Dataverse Stewards

What is it?

Dataverse Stewards are essential administrators entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing and managing their department's Dataverse at BSC. They play a crucial role in ensuring the proper organization, maintenance, and accessibility of data within the repository, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and best practices.

Responsibilities

The primary duties of a Dataverse Steward include:

  • Managing Department Dataverses
    • Overseeing the structure and content of the department's Dataverse.
    • Ensuring that datasets and collections align with institutional guidelines and the Deposit Agreement.
  • Dataset and Dataverse Publishing
    • Reviewing datasets and Dataverses for accuracy and compliance before publication.
    • Publishing Dataverses and datasets to make them publicly accessible.
  • User Management
    • Adding and removing users to/from the department's Dataverse.
    • Assigning appropriate roles and permissions to users.
  • Compliance Oversight
    • Monitoring datasets to ensure adherence to institutional policies, including not depositing sensitive or personal data, the proper management of metadata, file formats, and licensing.
    • Taking action in cases of non-compliance (e.g., consulting with the BSC Data Management team or restricting dataset visibility).
    • Ensuring the dataset has been reviewed by the BSC Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) team when necessary.
  • Maintaining Stewardship Contact Information
    • Keeping the list of department Stewards up to date.
    • Sharing this information with the BSC Data Management team to ensure proper communication channels and contact clarity.

How to become one?

To add or remove a BSC Dataverse Steward, the request must come from an authorized member of the mailing lists mentioned above. Only those on the mailing list are authorized to make this request.

The authorized member should contact the BSC Data Management team, who will process the request by adding or removing members from your department’s stewards mailing list.
